The main focus of the 29th board meeting of UNAIDS was: 1. financial sustainability of the HIV response; 2. HIV and legal environments; and 3. how UNAIDS has addressed the recommendations made in the Second Independent Evaluation (SIE), which evaluated the work of UNAIDS between 2004 and 2009. More. Government, United Nations and civil society representatives gathered on the last day of ICASA 2011 to discuss how to deliver on the 2011 United Nations Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS for Africa. The Declaration, unanimously adopted at the UN High Level Meeting on AIDS in June 2011, sets forth bold new targets and calls on member states to redouble efforts to achieve universal access by 2015. Europe's Employment and Social Affairs Commissioner, Andor Lászió, welcomed recommendations on caregiving at the Social Platform's Annual Conference on Care. He urged member states to safeguard elder rights and learn best practices from one another. Member states agreed on common objectives in health and long-term care such as to secure access to adequate care for all and promote quality care delivered in financially sustainable systems. More. The May 2010 adoption of the World Health Organization Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel created a global architecture, including ethical norms and institutional and legal arrangements, to guide international cooperation and serve as a platform for continuing dialogue on the critical problem of health worker migration. Highlighting the contribution of non-binding instruments to global health governance, this article describes the Code negotiation process from its early stages to the formal adoption of the final text of the Code. International HIV/AIDS Alliance welcomes release of EC contribution to Global Fund 20 December 2011
The Alliance has welcomed the release, on 15 December, of the European Commission’s 2011 contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Anton Kerr, Head of Policy at the Alliance said: ‘The release of the European Commission contribution comes at a critical point in the continuation of the international response to HIV and AIDS, as well as TB and malaria.’ More. The purpose of this document is to provide guidance to national AIDS programmes and partners actively involved in the country response to AIDS on use of core indicators to measure and report on the national response. These guidelines should strengthen the consistency and transparency of the process used by national governments. Informal caregivers needs in cancer/advanced disease are largely unmet. The science of carer intervention evaluation is methodologically challenging, and the evidence historically weak.
This systematic review updates an earlier effectiveness review to determine both the effectiveness of subsequently published intervention studies, and the current state of science. WHO's Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research has just opened its call for abstracts for the Second Global Symposium on Health Systems Research Inclusion and Innovation Towards Universal Health Coverage. The Symposium will take place in Beijing, China between 31 October and 3 November 2012 and will bring together health systems researchers, policy advisers, policy makers, implementers, funders, media representatives and other stakeholders. The symposium will provide a good opportunity to share new evidence, identify new opportunities and gaps, build understanding across disciplinary boundaries, and discuss the way forward to support HSR.
The call for abstracts is now open! The deadline for individual abstracts is 1st May 2012. 'Emerging Voices', young scientists and health professionals from developing countries under 40 (i.e. born on or after 1 January 1972), are encouraged to submit an abstract to the Alliance and to tick your interest for the Emerging Voices Track (a cv and cover letter will be requested).
